The Good Things in Life

The Good Things in Life

The first drop of rain on parched earth,
His company on days full of mirth,
Her words of comfort in a time of need,
A hot croissant and a glass of mead,
A child's merry laughter,
Your favourite toy to fall out of a cracker,
The joy on your parents face,
These are the things we ought to chase.
But most of us spend our lives,
Running after success and wealth,
Forfeiting the importance of good health.
Forgotten friendships,
Irreparably broken relationships,
These are the side effects of neglect,
Making us feel depleted and upset.
The remedy is very simple:
A long drive with your beloved,
A meet-up for lunch with friends so loved,
Those small intimate family parties,
Or sitting alone under a night sky so starry.

Bountiful Nature

BOUNTIFUL NATURE

The sweet smell of wet earth,
The beautiful flowers in full bloom,
Enough to end the cruel dearth,
Enough to drive away the gloom.

The scorching sun burns away the scars,
The pouring rain washes away the pain.
The pale light of the moon and twinkling of the stars,
Helps us heal and happiness to gain.

The buzzing bees, the cooing birds,
The growling tigers and the roaring lions,
Making their voices heard,
Holding high nature's bountiful bastion.

These wonderful elements of nature
Leaves us in awe of it's bounty.
To our every whim and fancy it does cater,
And thus proclaims proudly.

Your Choice:Life or Death

I had written this poem when I was in Class 9. It was for an All-India poetry competition on "Nuclear Weapon Free World", organised by CNDP, New Delhi. To my delight I won second place on a national level for my entry. I came across the poem as I was going through old memories and thought of sharing it with you'll. Happy Reading! :)

Your Choice: Life or Death

Once upon a time,
When the earth was a happy place,
Every country was equal,
Unlike the modern day power race.

Every country lived in harmony,
There was peace.
Now with nuclear weapons,
We are not one but into many a piece.

Mother Earth is witnessing
Due to nuclear weapons,
Death and destruction on large scales.
"Save me children", Mother Earth hails!

The world is at war,
The war of nuclear
We have no choice
But to live in fear.

To care for our near and dear.
O God! Do hear,
How long to we live in fear
From this war of nuclear?

We are now in dire need of peace
To give Mother Earth
For the land we took from her on lease
And give her a new birth.

So no in conclusion
Let us say,
Let us keep death and destruction
At bay.

Life's a Race

In this poem I've tried to highlight the parental pressure that students face these days to follow a certain career path. While my parents have been absolutely wonderful and have given me the freedom to pursue what I want, not all parents are the same. They, quite often, forget the child may have different aspirations. So here's hoping this poem helps change some parents' thinking atleast. ;) Happy Reading!

Life’s a Race

The melancholy musings render me numb,
Making me increasingly glum.
The time has come for separation,
Leaving the heart with no time for reparation.

Is it a norm of this world?
That we must disperse
Headlong into strange land, hurled
Pushed, pressured and shoved
To bring out your best
Caring not for health family and the rest.

Life is a race, we’ve all been taught
But to come to terms with it, easy it is naught.
This competitive world leaves us no choice
But we have to make ourselves heard, above the overpowering voice
Of society’s endless demands and pressures,
Leaving no time to pursue our passions and pleasures.

Society fails to understand,
Each one is different, each one grand;
With grander dreams and higher hopes,
Each with different ability and different scopes.

It’s never too late to do what you deem is right.
Follow your dreams, for them, fight!
For they and they alone
Can give you the happiness you forever seek.
They and they alone
Set you apart from the rest of your clique.

Oblivious to the world at large
Lost in your own dreamland,
You realise, what’s a dream and what’s a farce.
It is none other than ourselves that hold us back
From showing the world what we possess, not lack.

So take the initiative
Listen to your heart and go forth
Be wild, be different, be crazy, be creative;
With you dreams and aspirations, build a fort.

For this and this and this alone
Will set you apart;
It is this and this alone
Which will win you someone’s wonderful heart.

Wicked Path

This poem is a little on the dark side, unlike my other poems. But I hope you guys enjoy it all the same!

Wicked Path

The heart, once so delicate and tender,
Wishes only to rip and tear apart its offender.
The heart, once so serene and calm,
Wishes only to hurt and harm.

What has brought about this transition,
That every beautiful flower seems brutal.
What has brought it to such a position,
That every tender hearted person seems cruel.

At first, uplifted to cloud nine,
To the parallel universe where everything seemed to be fine.
But with one betrayal and one frown,
Her world was turned upside down.

The whisperings of sweet nothings,
Now seemed like regretful mutterings.
Those little moments of love,
Just turned out to be the devil's cove.

Her life now seemed a dreary existence.
She found herself only wishing to distance
Herself from the reach of love and affection,
Wishing to break off all her connections.

What she failed to realise,
Was the fact that there was a whole world of people who loved her,
People who were willing to sacrifice and compromise
Their lives, so that happiness could be hers.

But when reality, upon her, did dawn,
It was too late, for she was lost and gone.
She hadn’t even sung her final swansong,
When death had claimed her for his own.

The Gentleman

In an age where we see men who think themselves superior to women, I thought why not paint the portrait of a perfect man. A man whom every woman would dream of meeting. A real gentleman.

THE GENTLEMAN

The gentleness of his nature,
Touched the depths of her soul.
The masculinity of his stature,
Lit fire in her heart like a burning coal.

His perfect demeanour, his kind words,
Render her speechless and in awe.
Not the quintessential knight with shining swords,
But a normal  man with flaws.

His beauty lies in the fact,
That he makes his flaws his strength.
That mind of his, creative and abstract,
Your goodness from within he will extract.

His divinity lies in his mere being,
His radiant smile arouses feelings,
Of intense love and longing,
For his company, so attractive and appealing.

God doesn't make such men anymore,
Who hath such purity in his heart,
Such honesty in his eyes,
Such sexiness in his demeanour,
Such confidence in his stride.

New Dawn

This is a poem I had written to welcome the new year, 2014. It's for all the memories I made in the year, all the wonderful people I met and all the experiences I had. I know It's a little late to post it, but it better late than never! :) Happy Reading!!

GOODBYE 2013,
HELLO 2014

As this year draws to a close,
I look back at the millions of memories,
Wishing that was where time froze.
But as we all know,
Time and tide waits for no man
We just have to go with the flow.

The future is blurred and has no certain plan,
But this I know for sure,
That there can be no memories more pure,
Than the ones I made this year.
All the future hold, for now, is uncertainty and fear.

The time spent with friends,
The time spent with family,
All this together into a sweet memory is blends.

The last year of togetherness, before we disperse
Yonder into a world unknown and terse.
How soon time flew,
How soon the fondness grew
Rendering a painful, albeit inevitable, adieu.

The new year holds great prospects
New family, new friends
New roads to travel,
New mysteries to unravel,
New memories to make,
New experiences to rake.

To those who had me in their thrall,
To those who were with me in spring and fall,
To those who gave me melancholy and mirth,
To those who proved their worth,
I am in your debt.

2014, I would like to welcome with open hands,
ready to meet its challenges and demands.
Having travelled through rough mountains,
Clear rills, deep valleys and dusty sands,
All I want this year is to arrive at the peaceful, calm meadowlands.

Friends

This poem is one of my favourites and is dedictaed to my wonderful friends who have been such a huge part of my life! Thank you for being there guys! :)

Friends
The painful separation is looming large upon us,
A hard to accept reality slowly taking shape.
All our drama, craziness and fuss,
Will be sorely missed.

Sadness of separation
Refusing to leave;
We need to rely on the creation
Of new memories, rather than grieve.

The silver lining in the cloud,
Is realising how God has endowed
Me, with the most wonderful friends.
Friends, who console, comfort and comprehend.
My mind they set free, my soul they cleanse.

They are my partners in crime,
My guardian angels, my messengers from God,
In the deafening silence they help me hear the sweet chime,
They help me recognise the good from the fraud.

The sounds of our merry laughter
will eternally ring in my ears.
These million memories,
I’ll cherish forever.

The Beginning of (Blogging) Time

Hey Everyone!

I have been writing poems for quite a while now and my friends and family encouraged me to put them on a public platform. So here it is, my first blog where I will be posting my written work! Writing is my passion and I never realized how much I actually love this form of expression uptil I started contemplating pursuing a career in it. And being just 18, I realized my true calling at the right age thus enabling me to follow my dream!

I do hope you all will enjoy reading them and please do leave your comments! :)

Thank You and Happy Reading!
